Guide to understanding Down Syndrome for Kenyan families
Download this free Down syndrome guide for Kenyan families, caregivers, teachers and communities. Written in clear, accessible language, the guide explains what Down syndrome is, why it occurs, and its three types. It also explores common health conditions that may affect some children, learning and communication, inclusive education, family support, respectful language, and common myths and facts. It was created with an African and Kenyan perspective; this free printable PDF recognises the realities families may face, including limited access to specialist services, stigma and the need for stronger community support. It also offers practical ideas for supporting children with Down syndrome at home, at school and within the wider community. This guide is designed to help families feel informed, supported and hopeful while encouraging others to see every child’s strengths, personality and potential.

Assume I Can!
A free resource for parents, teachers, and caregivers on shifting mindsets around children with Down syndrome and disabilities. Told through the voice of Huru, a 7-year-old boy from Kenya with Down syndrome, this free downloadable guide offers a powerful reminder to the adults in children's lives: Down syndrome is an important part of who Huru is, but it is not all that he is. Too often, children with disabilities have their potential decided for them before anyone takes the time to truly know them. This guide challenges parents, educators, and caregivers to shift from assuming limitation to assuming capability, encouraging patience, opportunity, and belief in a child's ability to learn, make friends, do things independently, and dream big, even if it happens in their own time and their own way. Rather than a set of rules, "Assume I Can" is an invitation: to give children the time and space to try, to ask what they want to be rather than deciding for them, and to recognise that inclusion starts with the assumptions we carry. This free guide is part of the Huru & Maya inclusive children's book series, designed to help families, schools, and communities raise children who understand and embrace disability inclusion from an early age.

Jambo! I'm Huru. Let Me Explain What Down Syndrome Is.
A free, illustrated guide helping kids ages 4–10 understand Down syndrome, differences, and inclusion. Hi, I'm Huru, a 7-year-old boy from Kenya! I have Down syndrome, and in this free downloadable guide, I explain, in my own words, what that means, why it happens, and why it's nothing to be afraid of. You'll learn about the extra chromosome that makes me who I am, the different types of Down syndrome (like Trisomy 21), why it's nobody's fault, and how it can happen in any family, anywhere in the world. Most importantly, you'll discover that I'm just like any other kid, with my own personality, feelings, interests, and talents. Download the free guide to find out more and meet me and my friend Maya in our inclusive children's book series — A New Friend, The Dance Lesson, and The Reading Day.
